Finding

This finding looks at the relationship between father-adolescent closeness and parental monitoring and the association between friends' drug use and adolescents' marijuana use.

Although having friends who used drugs was associated with an increased likelihood that adolescents would use marijuana, this association was weakened if the youths felt close to their fathers or if they felt that their parents would catch them using marijuana.

Sample or Data Description
The study used data collected from 5,137 seventh through twelfth graders in an intermountain state in 1997; the analytic sample consisted of 4,987 students.
