Finding

This finding looks at residential paternal characteristics and paternal involvement.

Among fathers who lived with their children—whether biological, adopted, or step—those who participated more in civic, work-related, and service groups tended to be more involved in youth-related activities than fathers who were less civically engaged.

Sample or Data Description
Data came from the 1987-88 and 1992-94 waves of the National Survey of Families and Households. The final analytic sub-sample consisted of 1,019 men who were residential fathers and had school-aged children (ages 5-18) by the time of the second wave.
