Finding

This finding looks at the relationship between growing up in a household that received welfare benefits and the likelihood of giving birth and receiving welfare benefits as an adult.

Compared with daughters of families that never received welfare cash benefits, daughters from families that had received welfare were 2.5 times more likely to give birth and three times more likely to receive benefits themselves within three years of their first child's birth.

Sample or Data Description
Data on a sample of 2,070 daughters born between 1960 and 1976, taken from Panel Study of Income Dynamics.
